John Timmons Dighton, 88 of Monticello, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Funeral service will held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.
A farmer and realtor, Mr. Dighton was born May 12, 1920, in Chicago, the son of John Netherton and Olive (Timmons) Dighton of Monticello. He married Marguerite Heeren on December 2, 1950 in Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter Jane Dighton Smith, and brother Henry Dighton.
Mr. Dighton graduated from Monticello High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1947 and was a proud and loyal Michigan alumnus. He was also a member of the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101 for over 60 years.
Mr. Dighton is survived by his children: daughter Karen Marschik (Phil) Henebry of Cincinnati, son Kurt (Gloria) Marschik of Monticello, daughter Melissa S. Dighton of Chrisman, son-in-law Timothy O. Smith of Danville; grandchildren Patrick Henebry, Chad Marschik, Brian Henebry, Bridget Henebry, Jeff Gray, Ryan Gray, Jessica Smith; seven great grandchildren, beloved niece Catherine Bucknam, along with several other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Piatt County Animal Shelter or the Piatt County Nursing Home.
