Joe Wallis

Joe D. Wallis, 88, of Champaign, died at 1:30pm on March 4, 2023 at Accolade Healthcare in Savoy.  There will be a visitation from 9:00-10:00am on Monday, March 11 at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St.) in Champaign, with the funeral service at 10:00.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.

Joe was born on January 18, 1936 in Landis, Arkansas, a son Noah and Maude Wallis.

He married Carol Massey at the Chanute Air Force Base Chapel in Rantoul and together they had three children.  On October 23 1993, Joe married Evelyn Muhs in Philo.

Survived by his children, Joe D. Wallis, Jr., Susan E. Freathy (Greg), Sarah L. Walker (Joseph), Tom Muhs (Mary), Lisa McNail (Brad), Cheryl Shelmadine (Jake) and his grandchildren, Charlotte A. Wallis, Sophia M. Wallis, Jonathan W. Wallis, Jason T. Walker, Owen Freathy, Naomi Muhs, Logan Shelmadine, Garrett Shelmadine, and Robert McNail.

Joe worked for over 30 years at the Central Stores facility at the University of Illinois, earning retirement in 2004.
