Janet Oakley Obituary

Janet D. Oakley, 84, of Monticello, passed away peacefully at 2:14 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Kirby Medical Center in Monticello.

Janet was born on June 26, 1941, in Monticello, the daughter of Max G. and Doris M. (Wilkey) Wileaver. She married Charles R. Oakley on October 29, 1960, in Monticello, Illinois. Together they shared more than 55 years of marriage before Charles preceded her in death on January 6, 2016.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Kelli Wright of Monticello; grandchildren, Kyle (Lisa) Wright, Chelsi (Beau) Thomas, and Clay Wright, all of Monticello; seven great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy; and her sister, Beverly Carroll of Cisco. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her brother, Maurice Wileaver; and her brother Charles Dwight Wileaver, who passed during infancy.

Janet began her career working at the GTE telephone office in Monticello, where she was employed until its closure in 1982. She then continued her working years in banking, serving customers as a teller at Gibson Federal and later at First Mid Bank, from which she retired.

An avid reader throughout her life, Janet could often be found with a good book in hand. She was also a familiar and friendly face at the Monticello Family Aquatic Center, where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, CNAs, and staff of Kirby Medical Center for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they showed Janet during her final years. Their support brought comfort not only to Janet, but to her entire family.

Private family services will be held.
