Jane F. Wiggins

Jane F. Wiggins, 78, of Monticello, died at 8:15pm on June 26, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  

In accordance with family wishes, Jane will be cremated and there will be a Memorial Service at 3:00pm on Friday, July 17 at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home (215 E. Washington) in Monticello.  Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service (2:00-3:00pm). Interment will be immediately following at Croninger Cemetery, Cisco.

Jane was born on September 12, 1947, the eldest child of Harold and Imogene (Sabin) Sledgister.  She married Thomas Wiggins on February 7, 1969, in Murphysboro, IL.  He died on March 8, 2018.  

Survivors include: a daughter, Amy (Arthur) McTaggart of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and one son, Matthew (Jennifer) Wiggins of Monticello; grandchildren, Austin (Allison) Wiggins, Delaney McTaggart; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ashton and Aceson Wiggins; brothers, John Sledgister of Wasilla, AK and Joe (Phyllis) Sledgister of Tiskilwa, IL; sister, Julie Watson of Springfield, IL; sisters-in-law, Barb Wiggins and Connie (Greg) Henry.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson, Clayton Wiggins.

Jane began working after high school at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton starting her career in the medical field.  When she and Tom moved the family to Monticello she began work as a CNA at Kirby Hospital. Through the years she worked at the Eye Department at Carle in Urbana; then finally landing at Carle Clinic in Monticello where she retired in 2010.  She and Tom spent many hours at Clinton Lake on their boat(s) over the years.  They loved to travel, especially to the Cayman Islands, where they spent time with Amy, Arthur and Delaney.  Jane loved her lunch dates with her dear friends.  She was most proud of her daughter and son and the lives they've built.  Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren.  And she loved time with her great grandboys.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. A. Tangada and the Carle Hospital medical staff for their exceptional care in her final days.

Memorial donations may be made in Jane's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Cisco Fire Protection District.
