Jack Schriefer Obituary

John (Jack) Schriefer passed peacefully on May 23, 2026 surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his father Melvin Schriefer Sr; brother Melvin Schriefer Jr.; Mother to his children Kaja Schriefer; step-father Don Blessman; and great nephew Blayne Sheldon.

Jack is survived by his two children Nik (Kalynn) Schriefer and Hannah (Cody Gill) Schriefer; grandchild Walker Gill and expected grandchild; Mother Joyce Blessman; five siblings Bobbi (Tony) Dodd; Jeff (Paulette) Schriefer; Elizabeth (Jeff) Schleef; Eric (Tina) Schriefer, and Mary Beth (John) Jacobson; and eight nieces and nephews; and eleven great nieces and nephews.

Jack loved his family and riding his Harley.  Jack was a hard and reliable worker. He spent decades working in construction trades, including drywall, cement work, and painting, earning respect for his reliability and quality craftsmanship. He also started his own business providing engine repair, lawn care, and snow removal services.  He was a proud member of IUOE Local 841, dedicated himself to serving the veteran community, and active in many charity rides such as Wishes on Wheels and Toys for Tots .  Jack had an extensive friend network and a way of making friends, he could sneeze once and make 3 new friends.  Everyone who knew him lost something irreplaceable and his absence will be felt far and wide.

A visitation will be held at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N Elm St, Champaign on Thursday, May 28, from 2-5pm. The funeral service will be on Friday, May 29 at 4pm at The Vineyard Church, 1500 N Lincoln Ave, Urbana. Jack's cremated remains will be buried at the Danville National Cemetery at a later date.
