Mrs. Hausmann was born June 23, 1906 in Lugau, Germany, one of four daughters of Mulda (Burkert) and Otto Pippig. She married Gustav Hausmann on April 16, 1937 in Chicago, IL. and had one daughter, Christy Elliott of Urbana. She survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters. Hildegard Unger of Germany, her youngest sister survives. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Thomas and Lori Elliott, and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hausmann completed business school in Germany and was an accountant before immigrating to the United States. During her first years here she learned the English language by working as a housekeeper, doing word puzzles, and reading. Following her marriage and during the World War II years she was primarily responsible for helping both her family and her husbands to survive when everything was in short supply.
In 1951, she and her family moved to Fox Lake, IL and she became a clerk and buyer for a local department store. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved knitting, crocheting, cooking, and gardening. She was particularly fond of the people who lived in Fox Lake and enjoyed the canasta group tremendously.
After her husband passed away in 1973, she moved to Urbana to be close to her daughter and her daughters family. She never failed to maintain a positive attitude.
