George Meece Obituary
George L. Doc Meece, 82 of Monticello, passed away at 1:40 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Eischen officiating. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside Rites.
George was born April 17, 1926 in Monticello the son of Elmer and Anna (Willis) Meece. He married Ellen E. Lyons on June 20, 1948 in Monticello. They were married for 60 years.
Surviving is his wife: Ellen E. Meece of Monticello, children: Ann (Jim) McIntosh of Monticello and Terry (Karla) Meece of Oliver Springs, TN, grandchildren: Kimberly (Rusty) Hislope, Brian (Melissa) McIntosh, Katherine McIntosh, Megan Meece, and Ryan Meece, great grandchildren: Natalie McIntosh, Logan Hislope, and Camden McIntosh, brothers: Lynn (Virginia) Meece of Tuscon, AZ, Raymond (Helen) Meece of Monticello, Ralph (Doty) Meece of Muncie, IN, and Wayne (Loretta) Meece of Bloomington, sisters: Shirley (Dale) Turner of Monticello and Sondra (Dale) Harris of Morris. George was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers (Jim and Robert Meece) and 1 sister (Mary Stone).
George retired from the Monticello Post Office in 1985 after 35 years of service where he worked as a window clerk, Postmaster, and then rural mail carrier. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a gunner during WW II. George and Ellen also ran the Meeces Produce Market for 20 years. George was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Monticello Lions Club, the Rural Mail Carriers Association, and a 60 member of the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101 of Monticello.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home or donors choice.
