Gene Elmore Obituary
Gene Buzzy Elmore, 77, of Monticello, died at 12:35 PM, April 30, 2011 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Monticello with Pastor Richard Smith and Pastor Randy Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.
Gene was born December 6, 1933 in Greenfield, IL the son of Orville Edwin and Leborah (Converse) Elmore. He married Anna C. Peggy Rawlings on June 30, 1956 in Franklin, IL. She died on December 17, 1986. He married Marshia Murphy on December 3, 1988 in Savoy.
Survivors include his wife, Marshia Elmore of Monticello; sons, Tony (Teresa) Elmore of Chatham, Tadd VanDemark of Ft. Myers, FL, Eric VanDemark and Shane (Kim) VanDemark both of Homestead, FL; daughter Terri (Trevor) House of Oceanside, CA; brother, Orville Edwin Elmore, Jr. of Ft. Worth, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and 2 brothers (William and Gilbert Bud Elmore).
Gene retired from the Monticello School District and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Monticello Athletics and Music Boosters, a former member of the Monticello Lions Club and enjoyed attending his grandchildrens sporting events and the Wednesday night poker club.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Monticello Athletic Boosters.
