Gene Darnall Obituary
Robert Gene Darnall, 77, of Monticello, passed away at 2:16 p.m., October 2, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Gene was born on May 24, 1935 in Champaign, IL the son of Frank and Daisy (Harris) Darnall. He married Nancy Schubert on February 27, 1954 in Champaign.
Gene is survived by his wife; Nancy Darnall of Monticello, daughters; Melinda (Ted) Combes of Monticello and Melanie (Bob) Stevens of Bement, grandchildren; Karina Combes, Ross Combes, Mollie Stevens, and Eric Stevens, great grandchild; Riley Combes, siblings; Jo Ann Cloud of Cabool, MO, Harold Darnall of Rantoul, IL, Hilma Ridgley of Maroa, IL, and Jack Darnall of Windsor, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son (Mark Darnall), 3 brothers (Frank, Jerry, and John Darnall), and 1 grandson.
Gene retired from Illinois Power after 40 years of service. He was a member of the C Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101. Gene built homes in his spare time but his greatest joy was spending time with his friends, family, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Monticello Township Cemetery with Rev. David Stogsdill officiating. No visitation. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101.
