Freda Peck Obituary

Freda M. Capps Downey Peck, age 92 of Monticello passed away at 1:00 a.m. Saturday August 15, 2009 at the Piatt County Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Mike Eischen officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Freda was born on March 20, 1917 in Lintner, Illinois to William B. and Mattie L. (Brandon) Capps. She married Burl Downey, August 1, 1935. Freda married Harold Peck, November 7, 1969. Freda leaves two granddaughters, Deanna Roberts of Davenport, Iowa; and Denise (Chris) Brown of Tuscola, Illinois; three great grandsons; one great granddaughter; and four great great grandchildren. Also, a stepson Donald Peck of Anderson South Carolina; four step-grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren; two sister in-law, Charlotte Capps of Cerro Gordo, Illinois and Betty Downey of Monticello, Illinois; many loved nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law and dear friend, Linda Downey.
Freda was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church for over 50 years; she was a member of the Piatt County Home Extension, Monticello Womans Club, Kirby Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Bethel Rebekah Lodge #253. Freda was the first female to be sworn in as deputy for Piatt County Sheriffs Department. She also worked 15 years for Sheuermann Realty as a Secretary and bookkeeper.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold Peck; son Jack Downey; sisters, Irma Krall, Laura Balderson, and Ruth Longstreet, and two brothers, Glenn Capps, and John Capps.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home, Kirby Auxiliary, or the Monticello United Methodist Church.
