Together they raised six children, Jennie Young of Springfield, Frank C. Frank served at Chanute Air Force Base and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in November 1952. He subsequently retired from the base as the civil service suggestion branch manager in 1976. He was well known in the Champaign area as an active member of the Knights of Columbus, AMVETS, VFW, Disabled Veterans (DAV) and American Legion Post 24. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 24 and past 19th District commander of the American Legion. He and Dolly enjoyed attending the many conventions associated with his position. Frank and Dolly were an integral part of the Legion’s Community Children’s Christmas Party for many years. They enjoyed participating in any activities that recognized and supported veterans, such as collecting blankets, calendars and other supplies to be delivered to the VA Hospital in Danville. They attended Holy Cross Church; Dolly sat in the back row, while Frank ushered at 9:30 Mass on Sundays. He was also a tag-along with
Dolly when she served and sang at Dom’s Patio Villa.
His large and extended family knows and will remember him as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood in Mahomet, Montvale Estates in Springfield, The Crossings at Riverview in Riverview, Transitions Hospice in Champaign and Life Path Hospice in Tampa for the care and support each provided in the last years of Frank and Dolly’s lives.
Please join Frank's family at a graveside service at noon at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana, on Saturday, Dec. 17. A celebration of Life (oh, what a party it will be!) will be held at a later date.
