Frank Mula Obituary
Frank J. Mula, 91, of Monticello, passed away at 10:20 AM, October 2, 2011 at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church in Monticello with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. A prayer service with a short Eulogy will be held at 5:30 PM with visitation to follow from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside Rites.
Frank was born February 14, 1920 in Eagleton, PA the son of Joseph and Rose (Chiasa) Mula. He married Helen Schaefer on January 27, 1949 in Decatur. She passed away on January 16, 1993.
Survivors include his sons; Tom Mula of Chicago and John Mula (partner Donald Hutzel) of Washington D.C, daughters; Margaret Mula (spouse Roland Feldmann) of St. Petersburg, FL and Anne Mula of Monticello: He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 5 brothers (Dominic, Carl, Phillip, Paul, and Pete).
Frank was a retired Art teacher at the Monticello High School. He served as a Technical Sergeant with the 7th Armored Division in the U.S. Army during the World War II. He fought in France and Italy, was a wounded war veteran, and received the Purple Heart along with other accommodations. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church of Monticello. He was an art teacher at the Allerton Park Art Camp for many years, part time entertainer at Filippo's Restaurant and the annual French Club Dinner. Frank started teaching at a one room schoolhouse in White Heath and was the first art teacher to decorate the high school gym for homecoming which is still being done today.
Memorials may be made to the Monticello High School Art Department.
