Florence Ethel Melvin passed away on December 31, 2011, age 101, at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Florence was born August 12, 1910 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the parents of Fountain and Elizabeth Eckert Schrack. She married Louis Melvin on January 31, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. Louis died in 1972. Her husband, mother and father, and two brothers (George and Robert Schrack) preceded her in death.
Florence was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of St. Lukes School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio. She worked for Dr. George Green for several years and retired from Piatt County Public Aid as a certified social worker after seventeen years. She was a member of the Cisco United Methodist Church.
Florence enjoyed playing bridge and reading.
She is survived by son; Michael (Mary) Melvin of Au Gres, MI, daughter; Martha Goble of Monticello, IL, five grandchildren; Wendy (Jeff) Chantiny of Lambertville MI, Christopher (Beth) Melvin of Chandler, AZ, Patrick (Rachel) Melvin of Neola, IA, Jean Goble of Monticello, IL, and Michael Goble of Weldon, IL., eight great grandchildren; Claire and Connor Chantiny, Michael, Hannah, and Noah Melvin, Amaya Florence and Kaelyn Melvin, and William Goble.
Visitation will be held at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 and one hour prior to the service at the Cisco United Methodist Church on Friday, January 6, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Cisco United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Beedy officiating. Burial will be in the Chandler Cemetery, which was once owned by the Melvin family.
Memorials may be given to the Cisco United Methodist Church or the Piatt County Nursing Home.
