Edward Schuler Obituary
Edward Ed Schuler died peacefully with his family Sunday, May 23 at Piatt County Nursing Home.
Ed was born December 8, 1923 to Albert and Clara (Pudil) Schuler in Brooklyn, New York. He was the oldest of eight children, preceded in death by Bob, Irene, Joe and Al. Surviving him are Claire (Bob) Glaser of Florida, Jim (Gladys) Schuler, Tom (Pat) Schuler of Midlothian, Il.
Ed married the love of his life, Millie Shipp, who he met at a Valentines Day dance in 1942. They married on July 13, 1946 at St. Leos Catholic Church in Versailles, KY. They were happily married for 57 years. She preceded him in death in March of 2003. They had four children, Michael, who died in 2001, Patrick of Berwyn, IL, Terri Schuler Murray (Mike) Champaign, and Kathy Patterson, Champaign. Ed was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Eds parents moved to Berwyn, IL where he went to grade school and high school. He partially completed his college education in engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology before enlisting in the Army in December 1941, where he was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked as a cartographer until 1945 and later discovered he had drawn the maps for the Normandy Invasion.
Ed resided in Brookfield, IL with his family until 1971. They later moved to Monticello, IL where he lived until his death. Ed worked for Kraft Foods for 37 years as a mechanical engineer.
He was very active at St. Philomenas Church, where he was a church trustee for many years. Ed was a member of the Cursillo Program. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 101 and was a past commander. Ed was part of the community group that helped established and built Nicks Park Community Playground.
He loved all Chicago Sports, but none ranked above his Chicago Cubs.
A celebration of Eds life and many accomplishments will be held at Mackey Wright Funeral Home in Monticello, on Wednesday, May 26 from 6:00 to 8:00pm with a Rosary service at 7:45
A funeral mass will be held at St. Philomenas Catholic Church at 10:00am on Thursday, May 27.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home or the Alzheimers Association in memory of Millie Schuler.
