Edward Hynds, Jr. Obituary

On Friday, March 24, 2023, Edward J. Hynds Jr. of Champaign, passed away peacefully at age 91.

Edward was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Champaign, to Edward and Mary Agnes (English) Hynds.

Edward attended the University of Illinois, where he received a bachelor’s degree in industrial administration in 1954. Following college, he served in the United States Army as a 2nd lieutenant during the Korean War.

Upon returning home, Edward began working for the family business, English Brothers Co. Edward served as president of the company for more than 30 years before retiring in 2000. During his tenure, the company completed many significant construction projects throughout the state, and the company, as well as Edward himself, received many awards in recognition of excellence.

Edward was active with many construction-related organizations, including Central Illinois Builders chapter of AGC, Laborer’s International Union of North America and the Consolidated Construction Safety Fund of Illinois (CCSFI).

Edward was a devoted husband to wife, Sandra, and devoted father to his six children, Richard, Patrick, Elizabeth, Michael, John, and Margaret.

Edward and Sandy enjoyed traveling the world and spending the winter months in their home in Lauderdale by the Sea. He had many hobbies, some of which were flying model airplanes that he had built, hunting, fishing and watching Illini football and basketball. He enjoyed giving back to charitable organizations in the community and helping people in need.

Edward was preceded in death by his mother Mary Agnes Hynds; father Edward J. Hynds Sr.; sister Martha Twohey Mohr; sons Michael Hynds and John Hynds; daughter Elizabeth Czajkowski; stepson David O'Connor Shoresman; and mother of his children Mary Ann Hynds (Bradley). He is survived by his wife Sandra Hynds of Champaign; sister Virginia Bash of Champaign; sons Richard Hynds and Patrick Hynds of Champaign; daughter Margaret Hynds of California; stepdaughter Karen Shoresman Frame Simakis and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation Tuesday, March 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Champaign.
