Donn Piatt Obituary
Donn Piatt, 88, of Monticello, passed away at 8:50 PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Monticello Township Cemetery with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM, Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home.
Donn was born August 22, 1920 in Ivesdale, IL the son of Donn and Kathryn (Ray) Piatt. He married Karleen Dycus in June of 1947 in Monticello. She passed away February 24, 2009.
Surviving is his daughter: Tamzin Kratz Holman of Monticello, son: Dyke Piatt of Monticello, grandchildren: Justin Holman of Ann Arbor, MI, Shana Holman of Henderson, NV, James Piatt of Indianapolis, IN, Will Piatt of Corpus Christi, TX, and Elizabeth Piatt of Carbondale, IL, great grandchildren: Zoe Catherine Holman, James Piatt Holman, Sarah Alice Holman, and Margaret Ann Piatt. Donn was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 1 sister (June Piatt Slevin).
Donn is the great-great-grandson of the founder of Piatt County, James A. Piatt. Graduated from Monticello High School in 1938. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1942 with B.S. from the College of Commerce. Served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. In 1946, joined the Monticello Insurance firm of Burgess & Cline which he later purchased. Community leadership has included: Treasurer & Director, Monticello Chamber of Commerce; President & Director, Monticello, Do-More Corp; Treasurer & Director, Kirby Hospital; Instrumental in development of Tatman Village; Director, Tatman Village; Director National Bank, Marine Bank, and BancOne (Champaign-Urbana); President, Monticello Township Cemetery District; Director, Monticello Industrial Development Corp.; Director, Monticello Grain Company; Past President, Monticello Rotary Club; Vice-President & Director, Piatt County Loan Association; 6-year Member, Monticello Community Unit #25 Board of Education; Inducted into the Monticello High School Hall of Fame on September 22, 1995. Above all else he demonstrated dedication and devotion to his home town.
