Don was born Aug. 25, 1923, to parents Ernest and Esther (Heyer) Turner. He married Carol Lita Kroner on Sept. 22, 1948. Carol Lita proceeded him in death on May 10, 2014. He was also proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith; sister, Mildred; and a grandson.

Survivors include a sister, LaVerne of Austin, Texas; and children, Jill Lawson, Coral Springs, Fla., Doug (Nancy) Turner and Patti (Bob) Simpson of Mahomet, and Jennifer (Jason) Means of Sarasota, Fla. Don also leaves 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Don farmed north of Mahomet most of his life, turning the farming over to his son and grandsons in his later years. Although he was no longer farming, he never lost his love for the farm. In his last years, spending time on the farm were his happiest times. In addition to farming, Don and Carol opened Tincup Campground in the 1970's and together ran the business until selling it in the mid-1990s. They were also co-owners of the Island House Motel on Casey Key, Fla., where they enjoyed spending the winters. Some of his fondest memories were spending time with the many friends they made at the Island House.

Don was a member of the Mahomet-Seymour School Board in the 1960s, serving as president of the school board some of the years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church, The Farm Bureau and the American Angus Association.

A man of few words, Don enjoyed sports and was an avid baseball player, enjoyed water skiing, bowling and golf. Most of all, Don was a wonderful father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend.

The family extends much appreciation to the very special staff at Bridle Brook memory care for the loving care these last few years. Also, thanks to Hospice, who along with Bridle Brook made sure his last days on earth were peaceful and comfortable.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family request donations be made to the Mahomet-Seymour FFA chapter.
