Donald McDuffee Obituary

Donald Wayne McDuffee was born in rural Bondville, IL, on October 14, 1925, and died at age 93 on May 18, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital. His was a life of service to his family and community, gentle humor, and goodness. Don was a family man with many skills and talents, which he shared generously with others. In his younger days he and his wife traveled around the U.S., square danced, and remodeled their house. He was an avid bowler, a hobby he shared with a number of his children and grandchildren. He retired as postmaster in Bondville. To the end he was a Cubs fan, a NASCAR fan, and a faithful Catholic, not necessarily in that order.

The legacy Don leaves includes obtaining a grant to build the park in Bondville and serving as mayor there, five children, 15 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Alice (Henry) McDuffee, five children: Kathleen (Jerry) Sievers, Tuscola, IL; Phillip (Chong Ok) McDuffee, Raleigh, NC; Betsy (Chic) Place, Champaign; Russell (Becky) McDuffee, Champaign; Amy (Louis) Braghini, Champaign; three siblings Ettna Tarr, Martha Francisco, and Glenn McDuffee.

Preceding him in death were his parents Earl Whitson McDuffee and Helen Lenora (Gillick) McDuffee, and siblings JC McDuffee, Ray McDuffee, and Eileen Rexroad.

There will be a funeral mass at 11:00 on Thursday May 23 at St. Boniface in rural Seymour.  The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  In accordance with family wishes, he will be cremated after the funeral and the cremated remains will be buried at 1:00 on Friday May 24 at St. Boniface Cemetery.
