Dean F Winder, 83, died at 5:00 a.m. Saturday (Oct 15, 2011) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home and funeral services will be Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home.
Dean was born August 29, 1928 in Lodge, IL the son of Phillip and Gladys (Foster). He married Alice Louise Grabb on October 15, 1949, in Piggott, AR. She preceded him in death, September 20, 1995.
Survivors include daughters Alicia, Monticello, Alexia Gossett, Champaign and sons Alan, Monticello and Robert, Aurora, IL; nine grandchildren Allison (Zack) Chapin of Noblesville, IN, Ashley Gossett, Carmel, IN, Timothy (Emily) Champaign, IL, Alexandra Gossett, Champaign, IL, Amanda Gossett, Carmel, IN, Taylor Gossett, Champaign, IL, Jarrod Winder, Belleville, IL, Abbey Winder, Bloomington, IL, Autumn Winder, Monticello. Two great grandchildren: Jackson Chapin, Noblesville, IN and Tinley Franklin, Champaign, IL.
He is also survived by 2 sisters: Phyllis Colvin, Lexington, KY and Josie Faught, Tuscon, AZ, two brothers: Lester Winder, Monticello, IL and Warren (Jeannette) Winder, Buckley, IL. Dean also leaves behind long- time companion: Sally Moore of Monticello, IL.
Dean retired from the US Postal Service of Monticello, after 24 years. He was a member of Monticello Junior Chamber Commerce, serving as state president in 1964, thirty-second degree Loyal Order of Mason, Monticello Lions Club, serving as district 1-L governor, Piatt County Sportmens Club.
Dean enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing, traveling, playing poker and collecting coins. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the
Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
