Darman Clifton Obituary
Darman Eugene Clifton, 76, of Monticello, passed away on July 4, 2012 at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Christ Lutheran Church, Monticello. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., at the Christ Lutheran Church. Interment will be held in Goose Creek Township Cemetery, Deland. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello is handling the arrangements.
Darman was born on January 18, 1936 in Deland, the son of John Harold and Ollie G. (Burkett) Clifton. He married Ruth Ann Bruns on January 27, 1963 in Harvel, IL.
Surviving are his wife; Ruth Ann Clifton of Monticello, daughters; Crystal Dawn (Mark) Clark of Monticello and LeAnn (Pete) Clifton Heath of White Heath, son; Mark Alan Clifton of Monticello, 2 grandchildren; Jordan and Mitchel Clark, brother; John Wendell (Joan) Clifton of Deland and sister; Linda (John) Hammond of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Richard Wayne Clifton), nephew (John David Hammond), and niece (Julie Ann Clifton).
Darman worked as a mechanic for General Cable, Monticello, retiring in 1998 after 42 years of service. Prior to General Cable he worked for GE. Darman served as a PFC in the U.S. Army from 1957-59. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Monticello and the Monticello VFW.
After retirement Darman mowed yards and helped Rob Wood with the fall harvest. He enjoyed fishing and loved mushroom hunting. Darman had the pleasure of shaking hands with the former President Ronald Reagan. One of his favorite things to do was make Cranberry Salad for every holiday. Not one to follow a recipe, it never turned out the same way twice, sometimes tart, sometimes sweet. Darmans favorite activity was being a part of the Front Street Boys which included Paul Norman, Ray Burke, and himself, as they would gather every night in the front yard to share stories.
