Darlene Guth, 97, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Savoy Place Memory Care in Savoy.
Born on October 16, 1928, to parents Frank and Gertrude (Fairbanks) Knarr, in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Parker High School in 1947. Darlene married Herbert H. Guth on September 16, 1950, and joined him in Trieste Italy in 1951 while he served in the US Army. Together they adopted a son, David, in 1957, after purchasing a home in South Holland, Illinois in 1955.
Darlene loved people and loved to hear them laugh. She also loved to decorate, especially for the holidays. She had an army of friends, some from her years at the South Holland Trust & Savings Bank but most of them church friends from her many years with her husband as charter members of the United Presbyterian Church of South Holland and later while spending her retirement summers on Indian Lake and attending the Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church of Manistique, Michigan.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her son, David (Diane) Guth of Mahomet, Illinois; her four grandchildren, Kelley (Matt) Goldsberry of Fishers, Indiana, Katherine (Ed) Cantu of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jacqueline (Grant) Risley of Mahomet, IL and Mitchell (Emily) Guth of Columbia, Tennessee; and her thirteen great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Gabriella, Corbeau and Giuliana Goldsberry, Margaret and Elizabeth Cantu, Levi, Emmitt and Garrett Risley and Silas, Lily, Ames and Elsie Guth.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Grace Church, 800 W. Oak St., Mahomet, IL, at 12:00pm.
