Darlene Cozad Obituary

Our mother, Darlene (Seward) Cozad was born Oct. 20, 1934 in Champaign County, Illinois. She married Lynn Cozad on June 29, 1952 and they celebrated their 54th anniversary last year. They had six children: Debra and Diana, their first set of twins: Vicky Melford of Bloomington and Becky Dunham of Monticello, their second set of twins: Cathy Tysk of Cross Plains, Wisconsin and Laura Milton of Monticello. She had 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by Debra and Diana, shortly after birth, her parents, Furman and Doris Seward and one grandchild, Yvonne Melford. Darlene is survived by her sister Ella Meadows of Eiddenite, North Carolina and her two brothers, Ted Seward of Marshall, Indiana and Lee Seward of Waveland, Indiana. Darlene was a member of First Baptist Church in Monticello since 1969. She worked at the church for the last 33 years, first as a custodian and later taking on the secretarial duties also. She loved people and had participated in delivering Peace Meals in recent years. She loved reading books, sewing, cooking and crafts and for the past several years has participated in making and sending thousands of needlepoint crosses to Rock of Ages Prison Ministry as a mission project. Darlene died from pancreatic cancer on Friday, February 9th at 2:45 AM in her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 12, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Monticello. Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 PM Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello. Interment will be at the Monticello Township Cemetery.

Memorials contributions may be made the Cozad family to be used for Mission projects.
