Clifford Eldo Nelson, 94, of Monticello, passed away at 2:15 p.m., March 21, 2012 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Cliff was born on August 24, 1917 in Monticello, IL, the son of Eldo and Della (Castang) Nelson.
Cliff leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, Maxine Jurgens, Gay Powell, Mike Jurgens, and also his favorite brother-in-law John Strater.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 2 wives (Dorothy Jones and Beatrice Schwartz).
Cliff served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Monticello American Legion Post #101 for 67 years.
He was a Monticello businessman all his life, first as co-owner of the Nel-Mac grocery store and then as the owner of the Monticello Bowling Alley. He was a member of one of Monticellos outstanding bowling teams during the 1960s and 1970s.
There will be a graveside service only with no visitation. The service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Mackville Cemetery in Atwood conducted by Dan Powell, along with Military graveside rites. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Upon Cliffs request all memorials are to be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home for all their loving care and service.
