Christopher Divan Wojnar, 72, passed away on Nov. 21, 2023, after battling Glioblastoma for the past year. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
Chris was born on April 12, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN. His early childhood was spent in Tupper Lake, NY, and later, in Champaign, IL, where he spent most of his adult life. Chris studied Sociology at Southern Illinois University and went on to work as a supervisor for the News-Gazette in Champaign for 11 years. Later, Chris and his wife owned and operated Nautilus Poolside Fitness Center in Champaign for 18 years. He had a lifelong interest in fitness, and excelled in gymnastics and golf. Chris was also an avid sailor and loved to be on the water any chance he got. He was a member of the Clinton Lake Sailing Association for over 25 years.
Chris was a follower of Christ, a generous man, and a very loving father. His greatest pride and joy in life were his children. He was also a devoted caregiver, providing care for his mother for many years.
Chris was known for his unique humor with a knack for reciting movie lines. He was a lover of nature and enjoyed spending time in the country where you could always find him poking around a campfire.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Wojnar, sister, Deborah Cox, wife, Mary Wojnar, daughters, Lisa DeRosa and Gina Wojnar, and sons, Richard Wojnar and Stan Wojnar.
We will miss his laugh, his love, his free spirit, and his presence dearly. Sail on, Captain.
There will be no public services. Instead, a private family ceremony will be held for Chris at a later date.
