Carolyn Ogen, 87, died at 1:39 am on Dec. 18, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
She was born on April 5, 1936, in Lincoln, Ill., a daughter of Richard and Marjorie (Lanterman) Oglesby. On Sept. 12, 1959, she married Edward M. Ogen at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln. He died on March 12, 2021, and her cremated remains will interred in Trinity Church at a later date.
Survivors include her twin sister, Jacquelyn Bekins of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; twin nieces and their families; and a half sister, Yolande Knight of Glenview, Ill.
Carolyn attended Lindenwood University at St. Charles, Mo., and graduated from Denison University at Granville, Ohio where she was a member Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She earned a Masters Degree in Library Science from Dominican University in River Forest, Ill.
Carloyn was a member of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She was a Master Gardener and enjoyed her own greenhouse for over 30 years. Together with Ernest Young and Phyllis Hughes, she founded The Greenhouse Group, a hobby greenhouse organization which existed for over 13 years.
Memorial gifts may be made to Emmanuel Church Altar Guild, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts or the Champaign Public Library Foundation.
