Burtisdale Roberts, 86, of Monticello, Illinois passed away at the Bement Healthcare Center on Monday, November 14, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Burial will be at the Monticello Township Cemetery.
Burtis was born on January 28, 1925 in Dewitt County, Illinois to John and Rebecca (Hunsley) Roberts. He married Ruth L. (Roberts) Roberts in Faubush, Kentucky on September 17, 1949. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Douglas (Joyce) Roberts of Mansfield, Illinois; one daughter, Karen Roberts of Orland Park, Illinois; one granddaughter, Shenene (John) Williamson of Harrisburg, Illinois; one grandson, Brandon (Susan) Roberts of Ogden, Illinois; four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister: Gerald Roberts of Monticello, Illinois; Leonard (Verna) Roberts of Bradenton, Florida; Terry (Joy) Roberts of Poynette, Wisconsin; and Ina Mae (Carl) Wilkins of Dade City, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen (James) Cavanaugh.
Burtis was a member of and served as an usher for the Monticello United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He belonged to the Champaign Sportsman's Club, Lion's Club, American Legion, Yankee Ridge Clippers, Good Sam Club, Kentucky Colonels, and the National Campers & Hikers Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He farmed for several years, and retired after 20 years of service as a maintenance inspector from the University of Illinois. He loved family, camping and hunting.
