Robert “Bob” Beyers, 77, of Champaign, Illinois died May 21, 2025 at Carle Hospital in Urbana with his family by his side. The Wake will be Monday, May 26th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home, Champaign. Funeral services will be at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Champaign, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 27th. Bob’s final resting place will be Mount Hope Cemetery.
Bob was born October 18, 1947, in Pana, Illinois to Benedict “Ben” Leo Beyers and Regina Beyers (née Barry). Bob grew up on a farm outside of Pana and graduated from Pana High School in 1965. Bob attended the University of Illinois for his undergraduate degree in Finance, served in the United States Army, and returned to U of I for law school where he graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 1974.
In 1973, Bob married Luella “Lu” Davis (Pine Bluff, Arkansas). Bob and Lu began their lives in Pana, but lived in Champaign for over 40 years. They have three children: Ben (Cameé) of Annandale, VA; Brian (Nicole) of LaGrange Park, IL; and Sarah Toba (Tim) of Frisco, TX. Bob was a successful attorney, entrepreneur, educator, coach, loving husband and father, and doting grandfather. An avid sports fan, Bob was a founder of the Champaign Track Club. He was a life-long Illini fan and could be found at various events supporting the Illini.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Ben & Regina) and brother (Tom). Bob is survived by the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Lu, his three children, eight grandchildren: Brianna, Isabelle, Jackie, Vivian, David, Simone, Joseph, and Miles, two brothers: Richard “Dick” (Catherine) and Gary, his favorite sister, Brenda, and sister-in-law of the late Tom (Nancy). Bob also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends who mourn his passing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the American Cancer Society.
