Bill Smith Obituary

William K. Smith, 70, of Mahomet, passed away on Feb. 1, 2025, at Heather Healthcare, Joliet, IL, due to frontotemporal dementia.

Bill was born on May 20, 1954, in Urbana, the son of William K. Smith and Henrietta (Hattie) Smith. He married Bonnie Mingee in April 1974, and they shared 50 years of marriage. Bill graduated from Centennial High School and attended Parkland College.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Mingee, son Kenneth (Sarah) Smith of Mahomet, his brother, Robert L (Jenny) Smith of Antigo, WI, Buster and Benji his canine buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, his best friend, Tom Gridley, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Bill was the owner of Smith’s Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Service for over 30 years. He was involved in his hometown community of Mahomet. He served as a Worshipful Master in the Mahomet Masonic Lodge 220 in 1984, a lay minister with Shiloh United Methodist Church since 2013 and President of the Mahomet Chamber of Commerce in early 2000.

The visitation will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2025 from 11:00 to 12:00 at Blair Owens Funeral Home (102 E. Dunbar, Mahomet). The funeral service will begin at noon with Pastor Elizabeth Reis officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
