Betty Smeltzer Obituary
Betty A. Smeltzer, 72, of Monticello, passed away at 5:20 PM, Monday, April 13, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Eischen officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday April 16, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.
Betty was born September 6, 1936 in Macon the daughter of Raymond and Fleta (Tirey) Niehouse. She married George "Giff" Smeltzer on October 6, 1956 in Corinth, Mississippi. He passed away on December 22, 2002.
Surviving is her daughter: Rebecca "Becky" (Dan) Harper of Mansfield, granddaughters: Danielle (Ryan) Perring and Janae Harper (Joe Wisehart), great grandson: Jacob Wisehart, brother-in-law: Dale Karl of Mt. Zion, sister-in-laws: Pat Warnke of Chicago and Georgia Morford of Decatur, and close friend Lou Largent of Monticello. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sisters.
Betty was a retired bookkeeper and accountant from Kirby Hospital and also office manager for Dr. Keasling. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Club, a Board Member of Tatman Village. Betty was a dedicated mother, grandmother and enjoyed being with her friends and family.
Memorials may be made to the Tatman Village, Monticello United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
