Fredrick Bertel Bert Stoddard, 77 of Monticello, passed away at 8:44 PM, on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Kirby Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello with Rev. Tim Bauler officiating. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Monticello Township Cemetery with Military graveside rites.
Bert was born on September 18, 1931 in Decatur the son of Bela Morgan and Mildred (Cessna) Stoddard. He married Jean Schaal on October 13, 1951 in Monticello.
Surviving is his wife: Jean Stoddard, children and their families, son: Rick (Debbie) Stoddard, grandson - Jeremy (Sarah) Stoddard and great grandchildren Dakotya and Isabelle Stoddard, grandson - Ryan (Heather) Stoddard and great grandchildren Emma and Evan Stoddard, daughter: Julie (Jeff) Clodfelter, grandson - Michael (Jill) Clodfelter and great grandchild Jamie Clodfelter, grandsons Mark, Andy, and Jonathan Clodfelter, son: Bruce (Carolyn) Stoddard, grandchildren Kaylin and Avery Stoddard, son: Tom (Stephanie) Stoddard, grandchildren Bethany, Will, and Weston Stoddard and son: Mike Stoddard, grandson - James Bertel Stoddard, brother: Bela M. Bud Stoddard of McKinney, TX, nephews Mark Stoddard of McKinney, TX and Morgan (Lillian) Stoddard of California, brother: John Stoddard of Monticello, niece Jane Stoddard of Longmont, CO, nephews John (Melissa) Stoddard II of Richmond, CA and Paul (Sue) Stoddard of Monticello, brother-in-law: William (Gladys) Schaal of Washington, IL, nieces Karen Schaal of Washington, IL, Deborah (Mike) Walker of Massachusetts, and Melanie Schaal of Eureka, IL, sister-in-law: Mary Bach of Champaign, IL, nephews Dr. Charles (Rebecca) Hawley of Mahomet, IL and Patrick Hawley of Clayton, MO, many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Doris Stoddard.
Bert was a retired owner/operator of a TV sales and repair business, worked at Monticello Grain, was a bus driver, and managed the family farms. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello serving as a deacon and elder along with participating in the choir and Christian Clowns. He was a 50 plus year member of the Hamm-Burke American Legion Post #101 where he also served as Chaplin. He was an avid Cubs and Packers fan. Berts greatest strengths were in his family, his faith, and his patriotism.
Memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home or the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello.
