Barbara L. Slaughter, 81, of Hutsonville, formerly of Robinson, died on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.
In accordance with her wishes, private family services will be held.
Barbara was born on April 11, 1944, in Oak Park, the daughter of Wilbert and Henriette (Dykema) Optholt. She attended nursing school at UIC. Although she thoroughly enjoyed working as a registered nurse, she made the decision to leave when it was time to raise her family.
Barb was the loving mother of 4, Bernard Slaughter of Indianapolis, Michael (Ellen) Slaughter of Robinson, Heather (John) Crutcher of Oakwood and Rebecca Speros of Marshall; grandmother of 13, Cade Slaughter, Sydney (Jake) Mason, Kiefer Manning, Jake (Marissa) Manning, Clayton (Kristin) Manning, Skylar Crutcher, Evan Crutcher, Peyton Crutcher, Emma Crutcher, Henrietta Crutcher, Rowan Fox Angus, Jessica (Kaleb) Bradenburg, Clayton Speros and great grandmother of 9, Jack and Hank Mason, Owen, Carson and Bronwyn Manning, Brenton and Quade Speros, Gannon and Jaxton Brandenburg.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Stacey Speros.
Barb's family will always have warm memories of summers in the pool, (horror) movie marathons and horseback riding. Barb also instilled her love of animals in her children and routinely contributed to the World Wildlife Fund.
