Barbara J. Gorman, 77, of Champaign died at 11:29 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
There will be a visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 1305 Lincolnshire, Champaign, in Feeney Hall. The Rosary service will commence at 10:30 a.m., with the funeral mass starting at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Champaign.
Barbara was born on June 20, 1946, in Urbana, a daughter of Maurice and Mary Fern (Ducey) Gorman. She graduated High School in 1964 from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield. Barbara was a committed Catholic and joined the Dominican Sisters immediately after High School. After 18 months, she left the convent, returning to Champaign and married John Matheny, who died after a lengthy battle with cancer. She later married James Rohr at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Sept. 17, 1977. Jim died on July 24, 2022.
Survivors include, three sisters and one brother, Donna Dalbey of Oakbrook, Pat Gilroy of Sidney, Janet (Richard) Miles of Bozeman, Mont., and Maurice (Joyce) Gorman of Homer; and she was a proud aunt and godmother to 14 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jay Hettinger and James Gilroy.
Barbara and Jim were long time members of both St. Boniface and St. Matthews Catholic Churches. She was an avid collector of both teddy bears and roosters and was locally famous for her large collection of nativity scenes.
