Barbara L. Payne

Barbara "Bobbie" LaDon Payne (née Lough), 85, passed away on July 30, 2024, in Gibson City, IL.

Born August 22, 1938, Bobbie primarily grew up in Danville, before relocating to Champaign in 1967.

She worked for more than twenty years as a secretary at the University of Illinois in the Electrical Engineering Department. It was during those years that she honed her skills in researching her family genealogy, having had a lifelong interest in history.

Bobbie was quick to laugh and was known for her joyful demeanor, leaving a lasting impression on her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Kendrick Payne (Laura Littell); daughter, Kelda Giavaras, (Dean Giavaras); and grandsons, Simon (Syl Newman) and Micah Giavaras; as well as her much loved sisters Pat Lazzell and Judi Shuck.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Payne.

A visitation will be held at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign, IL, from noon to 1:00 PM on August 6, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. A graveside prayer will be offered at 3 PM at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, IL.
