Avis Eleanor Varner

Avis Eleanor Varner, age 91, of Monticello died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Piatt County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held October 29, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Shelly Forrest and Pastor Gene Colthurst officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home 215 E. Washington Street, Monticello, Illinois. Interment will be at the Monticello Township Cemetery. Avis was born March 6, 1917 in Dixon, Illinois; the daughter of Frank A. and Grace (Warner) Beede. She married Dwight Steve Varner December 24, 1940 in Decatur, Illinois. Avis is survived by her husband: Steve Varner of Monticello, Sons: Alan R.(Frances) Varner of San Mateo, FL., Larry N.(Patty) Varner of Galva, IL., Bruce O.(Connie) Varner of Creve Coeur, IL., and Eric R. (Susan) Varner of Carlock, IL. 6 grandchildren 6 step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren 9 step great grandchildren. Avis was preceded by her parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister. Avis was a Business Education teacher for Redmond High School. She was also a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, Kirby Hospital Auxiliary, Methodist Ark Club, Officers Wives Club, Home Extension, AARP, along with Midwest Christian Ashram, Camp Farthest Out, and Women Aglow. Avis liked to bake, read, and travel. Avis had a Bachelor degree in Education from the University of Illinois. She was active in Wesley Foundation. She taught Bible study for 25 years at the Piatt County Nursing Home. Avis gave support to the Illini Iris Garden. Memorials may be made to the Monticello United Methodist Church, or the Piatt County Nursing Home. The family would like to thank the staff at the Champaign Dialysis Unit and the Piatt County Nursing Home for all the care that was given.
