Arvilla Doss Obituary
Arvilla M. Doss of Monticello passed away at 7:18pm Monday, January 4, 2010 at her home.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1:30pm at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior at 12:30pm. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
Arvilla was born February 14, 1914 in Newark, IL the daughter of Richard and Clara (Wick) Gaard. She married Dwight H. Doss on June 30, 1939 and they were lifelong residents of Monticello. He preceded her in death May 28, 1989.
Surviving are her daughters Joanne Simpson of Surprise, AZ, Debby Calhoun of Springfield, IL and a son Judson (Luella) Doss of Grafton, WI. She will be missed by her seven loving grandchildren, Tori (Josh) Hindson, Brian (Marissa) Doss, Barry Calhoun, Jill Simpson, Lindsay Calhoun, Kara Calhoun, (Andy Haas), and Ty Simpson, and two great grandchildren Braeden Calhoun and Elliot Hindson. Arvilla was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dwight, her brother, Kermit Gaard and her sister, Mildred Gaard.
Arvilla was a teacher in the Monticello Unit #25 School District for over 25 years. Former students often remember and appreciate her as a favorite teacher. Her unique gifts and lifestyle extended beyond the classroom to encourage and inspire others to be their best. Her personality and character will be fondly remembered.
Following her retirement she embarked on a new career as an antique dealer having her shops in Boulder Junction, WI. For 35 years. She was honored to have her homes and shops featured in Country Sampler and Country Living Magazine. Arvilla was a lifelong enthusiast of nature and created beautiful gardens which were a joy to others.
