Ann Gallivan Obituary

Ann Bradshaw Gallivan was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Lancaster, Pa. She passed away peacefully Thursday (June 14, 2018).

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Bredehoft, Lyle Gallivan (Mary), Tom Gallivan (Ping), Hugh Gallivan (Janet) and Nancy Cleveland (Chris); seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Kathleen Crawmer; grandchild, Holly; brother, Thomas Bradshaw; and sister, Jane Greaves.

She grew up in Lancaster, Pa., with her brother, Tom; sister, Jane; and parents, Rebecca and Horatio. Ann’s lifelong love of horses started as a young girl when she would jump at the chance to accompany her father when he went to visit a family friend with horses.

After finishing high school, she enrolled in the Nurse Corps but later attended and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in sociology. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi while at George Washington and continued to be involved with the sorority chapter in Champaign. At George Washington University, she met the love of her life, James Gallivan. They were married in 1950 and moved back to James’ hometown of Champaign in 1951. There they had six children.

Ann was a devoted mother who was always there for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She still found time, however, to start a gourmet cookware shop in the late 1960s with two friends and enjoy her horse-riding hobby. All the years of riding have been a great joy to Ann and have included many horses and experiences and even a few injuries along the way. Recently, two of her prized ponies, P.C. and Charly, were accepted into a youth training program in Maryland.

She was an active member of Saint Mathew, Our Lady of the Lake and Holy Cross churches. Most of all, Ann was happiest with her family around.
