Allen Marquiss, 96, of Bement, died at 6:25 AM, Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Bement Health Care Center, Bement.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Dalrymple officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bement Township Cemetery.
Allen was born December 1, 1914 in Monticello the son of Paul A. and Oraella (Hettinger) Marquiss. He married Dorothy Marie Arnold on April 14, 1939 in Bement. She passed away on December 18, 2010.
Survivors include his daughters, Martha (Don) Floyd of Decatur, Mary White of Los Angeles, CA, Linda Seaton of Decatur, and Barbara Kuzma of Burbank, CA; son, John Marquiss of Chapel Hill, TN; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Marquiss of Monticello, sisters; Maxine McPheeters of Monticello and Bette Hopper of Champaign. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister (Juanita Beebe) and 1 brother (Charles Chick Marquiss).
Allen retired as owner/operator of Marquiss Construction Company and was also a retired farmer. He was a member of the Oakley Methodist Church, BPOE Elks of Decatur, and a shuffle board league in Ft. Myers, FL. He served on the Cerro Gordo School Board and the Oakley Drainage Ditch Commission. Allen enjoyed gardening, inventing and recreating items in his shed, country music, traveling, and camping.
