A. Lucille Bell, 101, died Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Country Health in Gifford.
Lucille was born on June 14th, 1924 to Albert B. and Naomi B. Brooks in Crawford County, Indiana. She was the first of 10 children.
She married Gerald Johnson of Fredonia, Indiana and had 5 children. Lucille was widowed very young and later married Leonard Bell. She was preceded in death by her husbands, 4 brothers and 2 sisters and one grandson.
Lucille is survived by her 5 children, Robert Johnson of Pesotum, Ron Johnson(Sue) of Pesotum, Gerry Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, David Johnson(Kandy) of Columbia, MO, and Phyllis Klein of Champaign and 1 step-daughter, Linda of Washington State; 3 sisters; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
During her younger years, Lucille worked at Carl's Truck Stop of Farmer City, at Robeson's Dept. store and at Christie Clinic in Champaign. She worked at the Champaign Postal Credit Union with her second husband until his death. She then volunteered at Mercy Hospital Auxiliary serving in various offices, including as president for a year.
Owens Funeral Home will conduct a graveside service on Wednesday, April 8th, at 11:30 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (of which Lucille was a long time survivor), or to the charity of the donor's choice.
