Wilfred Williamson Obituary

Wilfred C. (Ferdy) Williamson, 96, passed away on Wednesday, August 1,2018, at Farmer City Rehab.  He was born on November 11, 1921, in Mahomet, the second child of Guy Williamson and Ferne (Hoit) Williamson.  Ferdy graduated from Mahomet High School in 1939 and began working for his dad at the family business, Williamson Plumbing and Heating, which was started by Ferdy’s grandfather in 1916.  He continued working there almost until his 90th birthday.  His only break was from 1942 to 1945 when he proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Ferdy also was actively involved in his community.  He was one of the charter members of Mahomet Legion Post 1015 and was also a charter member of the Mahomet Lions Club.  He was one of several men to start the Cornbelt Fire Department in 1953 as well, and served as a volunteer fireman for many years.  In addition, he was one of a group of local men who worked to obtain a charter to open the Community Bank of Mahomet in 1959.  He also served as President of the Board of Directors of the bank for many years.

Ferdy married Doris Deaton in Champaign on October 7, 1945, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage before she passed away on November 27, 2001.  He is survived by their 3 children: Carol (Richard) Glazebrook of Sullivan, Tom (Jana) Williamson of Mahomet, and Jane (Chuck) Sapp of Mantua, New Jersey.

Ferdy is also survived by his grandchildren: Amanda Glazebrook, Allyson Kunz, Brooke Wilsey, Guy Williamson, Tyler Sapp , Joe Sapp, and step-grandchildren, Cory Richmond and Collin Richmond.  In addition, he leaves great grandchildren: Rylee Kunz, Molly Kunz, Madalynn Haag, Henry Wilsey, and step-great grandchildren: Lauren Richmond, Ellie Richmond, Paige Richmond, Charlotte Richmond, and Oliver Richmond.

When Doris was alive she and Ferdy enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s athletic events, including watching them compete at the junior high, high school and college level.  After Doris passed away, Ferdy continued attending as many sporting events as he could.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy and a blessing to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his sisters Lois and Alma, his brother Maurice (Dutch) and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018, from 10:00 to 12:00 at Blair-Owens Funeral Home in Mahomet, with the funeral to follow at 12:00.  Memorials may be made to Mahomet American Legion Post 1015 or  Cornbelt Fire Department.

The family would like to thank the staff of Farmer City Rehab for taking such wonderful care of Ferdy the past 6 years.
