Anyone who was lucky enough to know Stuart David Lyons of Champaign was blessed by his sense of humor, integrity of character, love for family, and strong Christian faith. Stuart fought valiantly and bravely his whole life through many trials as a result of his congenital heart defect. Despite that, Stuart had an amazing life. He traveled to over 40 countries, he was a wonderful dad to Dylan Taylor, Johnathan Lyons, and Grace Taylor, he was a faithful and loving husband to Julie, he was a son who made his parents Susan and John Torasso of Oakwood proud, he was a caring friend to many, and he was passionate about his career as an IT Security Engineer at Human Kinetics.
It has been a remarkable journey with many years of happy memories. Stuart had been waiting for transplant at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and on Dec. 10, 2018 God called him home after 43 years on this earth. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Patricia and William Pilkington of Grape Creek, who Stuart loved dearly. His siblings Adam Lyons and Dana Mirman survive.
Please celebrate Stuart with his family. A visitation will take place on Thurs., Dec. 13 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St. Champaign) in Champaign. On Friday, Dec. 14, his funeral will be held at 10:00am at First Baptist Church in Savoy with a viewing one hour before the service. After the funeral a burial will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Urbana.
Donations may be made to the Lurie Children’s Hospital Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program or to the family for their wishes.
