Sherry (Billhymer) Cadena

Sheryl “Sherry” K. Cadena, 70, of Champaign died on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center in Champaign.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 2-4 pm at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St, Champaign).

Sherry was born on October 13, 1946 in Urbana; the daughter of Wayne and Peggy (Floyd) Billhymer. She graduated high school in Champaign. She later moved to Seattle where she worked for Boeing. Sherry absolutely loved living in Seattle however, she came back to Champaign and worked for Burnham Hospital until it closed and then Provena/Presence. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Genaro RubioFelix) Cadena of Champaign; her beloved granddaughter, Sofia Cadena of Champaign; 3 brothers, Steve (Paula) Billhymer of Champaign, Tom (Carlette) Billhymer of Lexington KY and Mike; a niece and many nephews; and her beloved cousin Mary Brownfield and family.

Sherry was an avid knitter and loved her close knit group of friends she shared this passion with. She maintained contact with many friends from her 45 years of employment at Burham/Provena/Presence and kept these friends in her heart always. Sherry’s favorite thing in the world was spending time with her Granddaughter Sofia. For the past 13 years, Sofia was the sunshine of her life and everyone that spent any time with her knew this well. This is a bond that will never be broken.

Sherry was a strong woman with an equally strong personality. Those of us that were lucky enough to know her, know that she did things on her terms and in her own way. This did not change, ever. Sherry would love for donations to be made to Champaign County Humane Society or St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital rather than flowers.
