Samuel E. Whiteside

Samuel Edward Whiteside, 76, of Champaign, formerly of Mahomet, passed away at 12:45pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at OSF Healthcare Heart of Mary surrounded by his family.

Sam was born on June 10, 1942 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to Glenn and Lola Whiteside. He married Frances Brownfield on April 28, 1963. She died February 21, 2017.

He is survived by his three children: Phillip Whiteside of Normal, Kimberly (Daniel) Lenzini of Mahomet, and Eric (Mary) Whiteside of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren: Jacey, Raegan, Patrick, Evan, and Lucas; one brother Neil (Janet) Whiteside. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Sam loved his family dearly and developed many strong friendships over the years. He worked in the grocery business until he retired. He and his wife spent retirement traveling and visiting family and friends. After his wife passed, Sam continued to travel with family and returned to working part time at St. Joseph IGA. Sam never met a stranger and enjoyed a cold beverage or two with his friends.

To honor Sam’s request, there will be no services. A private burial will be held at a later date.
