URBANA-Robert Lee Sylvester, 73, of Urbana died at home on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Services with military rites will be held at 10am on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main Street, Danville. A Celebration of life will be held at 1pm at the VFW Post 630, 1303 E. Main Street, Urbana.
Robert was born on June 3, 1944, the son of Robert and Gloria Sylvester. Surviving are three daughters: Tabitha Grieb (Rodney), Tonya Ladd (John) and Trisha Sylvester, three sisters: Brenda Burmsmier, Loretta Smith and Louetta Price, seven grandkids and one great-granddaughter.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Mr. Sylvester served in the armed forces from 1968-1972. He was a recipient of multiple metals during his years of service including the Purple Heart. Once discharged from the Armed Services, he worked as a truck driver and carpenter throughout his life. He was an active lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Sylvester took his duties as a member of the VFW to heart. He spent much time at the VFW Post 630, activity involved in numerous charities. He was an avid donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Mr. Sylvester enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening and performing music in his “band”, as well as collecting various memorabilia, especially things of Elvis and the American Flag. He was a true American Patriot. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
