Rebecca J. Simon, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Meadowbrook at Clark-Lindsey in the early morning of Oct. 15, 2018.
Becky was born on Oct. 4, 1940, in Centralia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Trevor and Mabel Jefffries; her sister, Martha; and her husband, James Simon.
Becky spent her career at the University of Illinois in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences as an academic advisor and in the School of Chemical Sciences as Director of the Placement Center. In that capacity she helped to launch the successful careers of thousands of students. Becky also was instrumental in starting and running the graduation ceremony and reception for students in the School of Chemical Sciences.
Becky was an avid, master knitter and enjoyed working with all of the fiber arts. She loved cats and cared for several Maine Coons during her lifetime. Becky was a botanist at heart and loved nature and plants. Becky’s friends came from all walks of life and they enjoyed her warmth and sense of humor. She will be missed by many.
