Patricia (Pat) Butler of Champaign, Illinois passed away in her home with her children by her side on April 30,2018.
Pat was born in East London, England to Walter and Birtha (Farmer) Grubb.
She is survived by her six children: Jane (Jeffrey) Kmetz of Coal City, IL, Francine (Kevin) Butler of Crest Hill, IL, Andrea (Terrell) Butler of Champaign, IL, Maria (Anthony) Hoye of Chicago, IL, Suzanne Butler Hunter of Champaign, IL, and Jewel Ashley Butler of Plano, TX; grandchildren: Danika Kmetz, Julian Butler, Terrin Butler, Isabel Kmetz, Jayden Hunter, Hailey Hoye, Lauren Kmetz, Londyn Butler and Mikala Hunter; and great-grandson Jaxson Butler. She is also survived by her brothers, Leonard (Mary) Grubb of Bicester, England, and Anthony (Rigmor) Smith of Oxford, England and numerous nieces and nephews.
For 30 years, she was a daycare provider – and to many, a second mother – for many children in the area. She was previously the social services coordinator of A Woman’s Place, a shelter for abused women. Pat’s door was always open, with a full plate "A Known Iron Chef" and endless love to all who entered. She was an outspoken advocate for women’s and children’s rights. Without hesitation, she often opened her home to those who needed it most, treating them like family and offering love and protection. She often glowed with each step her children took and looked on with motherly patience as they spoke their first words. As they grew and ventured out into the world, they knew she would never let go of their hands and that her love was forever.
Pat’s mission on earth was to show the love of Christ through acts of compassion. Her family tree extended far, her seed bear an abundance of fruit and love, and now her light will continue to shine forever bright over all of us that she has impacted.
Pat’s family would like to extend special thanks to Medical City of Plano Texas, Carle Clinic, Carle Hospice, Dr.Aref, Hospice nurse Rick and also caregiver, Tracey.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
