Mary Hannagan Obituary

Mary Loretta Boland Hannagan gently left this world on June 19, 2019 at 5:25 PM with her daughter, Paula by her side.

She was born on May 13, 1925 on a farm outside Ivesdale, Illinois to Frank and Lillian (Mattingly) Boland.  She graduated from Monticello High School and attended Parkland College.  She married Paul F. Hannagan on October 6, 1945 and they enjoyed 3 children and 47 years together.

Long before she became a Realtor, Mary was predestined for a career in real estate.  In the 1950’s and 60’s she custom built a home in Greencroft and a 5 unit apartment building in Lincolnshire.  During that same time, she acquired 4 duplexes.  She thrived on house plans, taking blueprints to bed rather than a good book.  Mary moved to 15 different homes/condos in Champaign and 2 homes in Naples, Florida.  Some of her timely real estate advice has not changed and is still quoted by many brokers today.  During her 40 year career, Mary received annual awards for her sales volume and professionalism.  She was an advocate for her client and always dedicated, detailed and thorough.

Mary was devoted to her faith, proud of her children and grandchildren, passionate about her business and loved to play bridge.  She was President of the Holy Cross Mother’s Club, a member of the Champaign County Association of Realtors, Illinois Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Champaign Country Club, Lincolnshire Fields Country Club and Naples Sailing and Yacht Club.

She is survived by her son Dr. Rob (Chris) Hannagan, Boulder, Colorado and daughter Paula Shurtz (Rick), Champaign.  Granddaughters Lindsay Berning (Dave) and Gillian Rimicci (Fabrizio), great granddaughters, Elizabeth, Amelia, Gabriella and Juliette and sister-in-law Jan Hannagan.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steve C. Hannagan, August 1976, her husband Paul F. Hannagan, October 1992 and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Margaret Boland.

The family would like to thank the tremendous staff at Amber Glen and Harbor Light Hospice for their great compassion and care.
