Margaret E Walsh

Margaret Elizabeth Walsh, 83, of Champaign, died at 2:34 pm at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Private family funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champaign with burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Champaign. Owens Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret was born on March 4, 1934 in Freeport, a daughter of Philip and Catherine (Burns) Walsh. She was a graduate of Champaign Central High School. Margaret attained her Bachelor’s degree at St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield and later her Master’s degree in Nursing Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital and later as a nurse educator at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN; St. Catherine’s of St. Paul, MN; Kaskaskia Jr. College in Centralia and Parkland College in Champaign. She was also a member of the American Nurses Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, James Walsh.

Margaret is survived by her siblings, Phyllis Forrest, Mary (Ed) Cascone, Thomas (Mary) Walsh and John (Vera) Walsh, all of Champaign and Catherine Varvel of Springfield; and by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. She will be remembered in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.
