Joanne L. (Daugherty) Hayes

Joanne (Daugherty) Hayes, 88, of Mahomet, passed away at her home on March 21, 2018.

A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark, Champaign on Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 am. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Owens Funeral Home.

Joanne was born in Urbana on June 20, 1929. She graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1947. She attended Southern Illinois University for 2 years, then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois in 1951 with a degree in journalism. Joanne worked at the University of Illinois until she retired at the age of 55.

Joanne married John (Jack) Hayes on August 21, 1950, and they had 3 children; Mark, Jeff and Karin.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; her children, Jeff and Karin; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laverna and Chuck Daugherty, and her son, Mark Hayes.

Joanne's family would like to sincerely thank the Carle Hospice employees, who cared for her during her last few months.
