George Floyd

George Wayne Floyd, 73, passed away on Oct. 19, 2017, in Bradenton, Fla., where he lost his battle with cancer.

George Wayne Floyd lived most of his life in Urbana. He was born in Laredo, Texas, and then moved to Illinois at a very young age with his mother Dorothy and stepfather Frank Uher. Both have preceded George in death, as well as his younger brother Andy.

George worked as a firefighter for 30 years at the U of I fire department. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

George leaves behind a son, Mitchell Wayne Floyd, whom he loved unconditionally, and a granddaughter, Danielle Marie Floyd. Siblings left behind are Dave Uher, Steve Uher and Vickie Watson.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. with a one hour visitation prior to services at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. Burial of cremains will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.
