Frank M. Williams, 95, died at Helia Healthcare Services in Champaign at 6:21pm on January 15, 2018. Frank wished to be cremated and his cremated remains will be interred at 1:30pm on Monday January 22 at Prairieview Cemetery in Savoy.
Frank was born on February 22, 1922 in Champaign, a son of Louis and Ailene (Miller) Williams. He married Gleendean Durst in August of 1953. She died in January 2000.
Frank is survived by: One son, Robert (Margaret) Williams; 3 Grandchildren, Charles Reynolds, Chad (Angela) Williams and Jason Williams; 5 Great-Grandchildren Kaila, Hailie, Cody, Dharma and Lane; Several nieces also survive him.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Larry, one Brother, Lou, one Sister, Anna Hedge and one Grandchild, Amy Williams.
Frank was a Veteran and proudly served his country during WWII in the Navy as a Damage Control Officer. After the war, he owned and operated Frank's Machine Shop in Champaign until 1968. He then went on to work at Magnavox, Mahomet-Seymour Schools and the U of I, earning retirement in 1987. He also served as a Volunteer Firefighter in Savoy for 21 years.
Frank had a lifelong interest in cars, owning, driving and enjoying many autos over the years. He belonged to several auto-centric organizations including; Cadillac-LaSalle Club, Bruch Owners Association, Horseless Carriages of America, Illini Collectors Car Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He also enjoyed horseback riding and coin collecting.
